NAPW Waco Local Chapter Announced New Board Members and Hosted Three Guest Speakers from a Variety of Organizations at Monthly Networking Meeting

The Waco Local Chapter held a professional networking meeting on August 15th at the Spherion/Conference Center, located at 334 Towne Oaks, where members and guests enjoyed a delicious, catered lunch from Jason's Deli. All attendees had the opportunity to meet and greet newcomers and members, welcome new Board members, and hear from three guest speakers.

Waco Local Chapter President Sandra Kennedy introduced the Chapter's newly formed Board that includes herself; Carol Ringwald, Vice President; and Vicky Smith, Secretary/Historian.

Sandra informed the group that two positions were still open, that of Event Planner, who would be responsible for planning each meeting, including ordering lunches, and planning and coordinating other events that the group decides to hold, and Treasurer. Member Diane Castello, who was one of the evenings's featured speakers, volunteered on the spot for the position of Treasurer.

As Treasurer, Diane will oversee the Waco Chapter funds. All attendees agreed Diane would be an excellent addition to the Chapter Board and elected her to the position of Chapter Treasurer.

"The group was in favor and we made it official!" said Sandra. "Diane was one of our guest speakers, donated two gift certificates, and became our Treasurer after experiencing our group for the very first time!"

After Sandra invited several new attendees to each share a 30-second self-introduction each, she introduced the three guest speakers and invited them to share with the group information about themselves and their work. The speakers were Pam Mohundro, Executive Director of Christian Women's Job Corp of Waco (CWJC); Diane Costello, Waco Owner of Painting with a Twist; and Destiny DeLillo, Executive Director (Central Texas) of Susan G. Komen Foundation.

"Everyone was engaged and delighted to learn more from these impressive women and their organizations," said Sandra.

Pam shared how CWJC provides educational opportunities for women in crisis situations who need to earn a GED and learn life, interviewing, and workplace skills. The organization also partners with Second Chance as they give women vouchers for clothing. Pam requested that anyone with donations to please give to Second Chance and let them know they are donating on behalf of CWJC. One of CWJC's major fundraisers is the Baskets of Hope that will be held in
October. She urged everyone to attend and told the women that if anyone wants to donate a basket, to please contact her.

"CWJC is an important charity doing outstanding work to help woman in our community grow and advance professionally," said Sandra.

Diane explained to members and guests how she has a day job with American Bank and now has opened her Painting with a Twist shop, where she works evenings and weekends. She shared how she had a bout with cancer and beat it, then decided to do what she loves. Diane enjoys painting with people to see them smile when they realize they can create a work of art on their own. She noted that anyone can register online for classes or to donate to specific causes, as she often hosts classes for charitable organizations.

"Everyone seemed to be greatly moved by Diane's personal strength to beat cancer, and her commitment to do what she loves and with people she cares about," noted Sandra.

Destiny talked about how the Susan G. Komen Foundation provides funds for free mammograms for women through their major fundraiser, Race for the Cure. She told members and guests that the organization is very busy during the rest of the year as well, providing health care in smaller communities throughout McLennan County.

"Destiny's professionalism and passion for what she does truly impressed everyone in the room," said Sandra.

The Chapter President next led a discussion about meeting days and times for future events. The group agreed the second Wednesday of each month works well for everyone and the current time of noon to 1:30pm is a good time to meet.

Sandra urged anyone who wants to suggest future speakers, topics, and other group partnerships to please let the group know and encouraged everyone to give some thought to these items. Also at the meeting, five door prizes were awarded: Kristi Morgan and Karen Tanner each received a Painting with a Twist gift certificate women's jackets ; Patsy Brooks won an Inspire Motivation Picture and Wind Chimes; an inspirational book, If Only I Knew and scented candles went to Vicky Smith; and Diane Castello was the lucky winner of a wine carrier gift bag of goodies that was donated by Spherion.

Diane Castello, the Chapter's new Treasurer, graciously offered to host the next networking meeting at her shop, Painting with a Twist, located at 1617 N. Valley Mills Drive. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 19th from noon to 1:30pm. Pizza will be ordered and a price per head will not exceed $5 each. Sandra will provide beverages and desserts at no cost to attendees. More details to follow in next month's online invitations.

"We'd like to extend our thanks to Diane for volunteering her place for the next upcoming meeting. I encourage everyone to invite at least one person to the next meeting and don't forget to bring recommendations for future events, speakers, and charities we want to learn more about," said Sandra.

Hyena Cart Launches Redesigned Spots’ Corner: Online StoreTargets Moms and Moms-to-Be with Quality New and Used Merchandise

The popular online store Hyena Cart – with more than 1,000 active sellers, most of them "mompreneurs" who run their own online stores – has just launched an update of its Spots' Corner online store, whi women's jackets ch is designed for moms and moms-to-be who want to buy or sell quality new or used, handmade or commercially-made merchandise, such as children's clothing, cloth diapers, yarn, toys, and nursing/maternity clothing.

The revamped site attracts about 15,000 unique visitors a day. In addition, the site totals about 45,000 page loads and sales of more than 125 items a day.

Spots' Corner (http://hyenacart.com/stores/Spots_corner/) is a popular shopping location, especially for mothers of young children and expectant mothers who are looking for eco-friendly items and a large, reasonably-priced selection of quality new and used merchandise, Hyena Cart owner Karen Lee said.

"The new site design features a fresher, more modern look that's more in keeping with the overall Hyena Cart site redesign," Lee said. "We kept it fun to stay consistent with the Spots character, and added green leaves and other references to the eco-friendly nature of many of the products sold on Spots' Corner."

Shopping on Spots' Corner works like other Hyena Cart (HC) stores, allowing shoppers to make purchases by simply registering for a free HC shopping account or signing in to their existing HC shopping account.

Listing items for sale is easy, too, Lee said. Sellers may list as many items as they wish for a two-week $2.50 fee. No additional fees – such as listing or final value fees – are charged.

Most items sold on Spots' Corner are handmade, but mass-produced items are acceptable, such as quality children's clothing and commercially-made baby carriers and toys – so long as the seller does not check the "handmade" box when listing such items.

Examples of popular items on the site include Goodmama diapers, Bamboletta dolls and Dashing Dachs yarn.

"Spots' Corner is an excellent place for finding new owners for outgrown children's clothes and cloth diapers that are in excellent condition, unused or barely used toys and yarns you had good intentions of making into something beautiful," said Lee.

Regular customer Bethany Kehl Esposito of Rumney, NH, said that Spots' Corner offers "great items that women like me look for--everything from quality diapers to clothing."

"Spots' is the first place I look for that must-have item, and I love how I can search for specific things, too," she said. "It is user-friendly and easy to navigate."

A recent survey yielded many positive responses from satisfied buyers and sellers such as these:

  •          "I love Spots' Corner. It's nice to be able to find good deals on used children's items."
  •          "Spots (is) very convenient and inexpensive to list while reaching a target audience."
  •          "I love Spots' Corner because it's a great place to sell used items for a low fee."
  •          "Spots' Corner is great because anyone can use it. It isn't some exclusive club that is hard to navigate or understand."

OASAP Will Work with Dress Designers to Launch the Original Products in 2013

With the development of B2C online store, more and more people find a problem, that is,there is still a wall to prevent the direct communication between consumers and designers. It is an especially prominent issue for this kind of online companies whose major business is fashion apparel like Oasap Ltd.

From current B2C model of online apparel stores, designers are always hidden behind the scenes, they are difficult to get the feedback about the latest fashion clothing styles from consumers directly, and to make matters worse, they have not unimpeded channels to listen to the sound of the end customers.

"We have a plan to set up a bridge between consumers and designers through our online channel, so that we can bring a direct dialogue between the two sides, " OASAP CEO, Mr.Moore decided to change this situation," We'd like to provide a development platform for those unknown original designers by 'Samples + Pre-sale', and begin the brand operation by the supply chain model of 'Consumers - Designers - Works', so as to promote the works of contract designers to individual brands and to meet the needs of unique styles from consumers. "

"We're just getting started now, and have not many suppliers and third-party cooperators currently, but we will open this D2C (designer to consumers) channel to more studios and individual designers from the end of this year. In future, we will sign contracts with more designers in different styles, so to rich the entire OASAP D2C channel", when talked about the prospects of D2C model, Nico Robin, OASAP Brand Director, introduced with confidence.

This Oasap model will open a direct dialogue era between dress designers and consumers. Every designer and every product will accept the inspection from customers, the good works will receive the honors and benefits but the out-of date products will be eliminated from the supply list. In this process, OASAP will take another substantial step on the road to a well-known brand by the fusion of fashion and customization.

Wacky World News Stories from 2006

Here are a collection of some of the bizarre and strange stories over recent times.

Good Samaritan arrested for drunk driving

A German man was arrested for drunk driving after he mistook a police spot check for a breakdown and stopped to help. Officers inspecting a car by the roadside suspected the 37-year-old passing motorist was under the influence of alcohol when he lurched from his vehicle to offer assistance, reports Reuters.
"Obviously his optical assessment of the situation as he drove past was that this was a vehicle breakdown," the police said in a statement. The man was arrested and banned from driving.

Shanghai goes the extra smile

Eager to put on its best face for foreign guests ahead of the 2010 World Expo, Shanghai is sending teams of "smiling volunteers" onto the streets to teach stony-faced citizens to beam at strangers. Forty university students have signed up to smile at people in public places, after a survey showed that only 2 percent of Chinese people smile at strangers, reports Reuters.

Team-leader Xu Xiaohong said: "We ask all the members to practise smiling at home. "We smile at the mirror to determine whether our smiles are acceptable. We not only smile with our mouths but also with our eyes."

Attempts to generate warmth among strangers in China have had mixed success. In October, volunteers offering "free hugs" to people in a busy shopping street in Beijing were detained by police for questioning.

Giant mirror takes village out of darkness

A village in the shadow of the Italian Alps has installed a giant mirror on a mountainside to reflect sunshine into its main square. Viganella, in the narrow Antrona valley, north of Turin, saw no sun for three months of the year before the project, reports CBC News.

The 48 sq metre steel sheet is controlled by computers to follow the path of the sun and reflect its rays down into the village square for at least six hours a day. Viganella, with a population of only 197, formerly suffered from a complete lack of direct sun from November 11 to February 2. Mayor Pierfranco Midali presented the project for approval in January of this year to help lift his community out of darkness, and the 70,000 pound cost was met by local government and a private bank.

999 'for emergencies only' say police

Devon and Cornwall Police have recently revealed some of the time-wasting 999 calls they have received. A woman dialled 999 when she realised her trousers didn't fit. Another woman rang the emergency services to report a pigeon in her garden, while another caller asked for a pizza to be delivered. Other calls included complaints of a phone battery running out, builders making too much noise and a report of a large owl sitting on a telegraph pole.

According to the Sun, Chief Inspector Nick Jarrold said: "There is a funny side, but I don't know what goes through their heads when they dial 999 to ask about changing their trousers. "An emergency call is when it is a life-or-death situation, people are injured or th women's jackets e baddies are still at the scene."
NE manhunt sparked by 'scary noise'

Two men who sparked a manhunt when their tent was found empty have admitted abandoning their camp after hearing a "scary" noise. About 50 volunteers joined the search when the empty tent was found in remote Harwood Forest, near Rothbury, Northumberland, on 5 December. Sniffer dogs and a helicopter with a thermal imaging camera were also used, according to the BBC.

Police had been concerned after finding a jacket and enough food for four days inside the tent. When they were traced on Saturday, the men confessed to driving away in a panic after hearing the noise. The abandoned campsite equipment has now been returned to the men, who do not wish to be named.

Santa vs shoplifters

A German Santa turned crimefighter when he leapt into action to chase two shoplifters. Santa Claus Dieter Thurn, 52, was in his grotto in a department store in Bremen when he saw the crooks filling their rucksacks with expensive cosmetics, reports Ananova.com.
Thurn flew after the pair and managed to hold them down until the police arrived.

Daniel Ingeborg, six, who was visiting the store with his mother, told local press: "Santa's so cool. He gives presents and fights crime. He's like Superman but better."

Raffled lobster wins freedom

A giant lobster has been saved from the cooking pot after persistent lobbying from restaurant diners. The Miami Herald reports that 50 year old monstroa is 37 inches long, and has 15-inch-long claws. He had been living in the lobster tank at a Massachusetts restaurant, and while half the customers wanted to eat him; the other half felt sorry for him.

Restaurant owner Fred Cunha decided to raffle at $1 a ticket to reach Monstroas retail price of $150, and let the winner decide his fate. Winner Claire Lupton returned Monstro to the ocean, saying that a lobster that big and old shouldn't end up on a dinner plate.

Armed robber foiled in Lego heist

Police in Florida are looking for a little girl who pulled a knife on a shop assistant as she tried to steal two boxes of Lego on Tuesday night. The girl, aged about seven or eight, hid the toys under her coat and tried to walk out the door.

A store employee was watching and approached the child, asking her to turn over the Lego blocks. Police say the little girl then opened her jacket and displayed a ten-inch carving knife.

The employee talked the girl into putting down the knife and the toys. The girl then rode away on her bicycle.

Thief leaves police vital tip-off

Criminal stupidity appears to be on the rise.Germany provides another example of illegal imbecility.

A careless burglar provided police with a crucial clue at a break-in when he sliced off the end of a finger on a broken window, Reuters reports. Police wasted no time in matching the piece of finger with existing prints of a 15-year-old from the town of Hildesheim. The youth initially denied breaking and entering, but confessed when police produced the digital remnant.

"We usually find fingerprints at the crime scene, but it's not every day that thieves leave the original there too," said a police spokesman. "I don't know if the fellow asked for it back afterwards."

South African court fines 'pregnant' man

A South African man has been fined $140 for taking a week off work, telling his employers he was pregnant. Charles Sibindana, 27, stole a certificate from a clinic during his pregnant girlfriend's checkup, the BBC reports. He then added his own details to the note, submitted it to his employers and took seven days off work, seemingly unaware that only women consult gynaecologists.

His employers became suspicious and investigated the matter. On passing sentence Magistrate Bruno Van Eeden warned Mr Sibindana "not to walk around faking sick letters from gynaecologists."

Dangers Of Reverse Mortgages – Top 3 Things To Be Aware Of

As the baby-boomers prepare for retirement reverse mortgages are going to be the next mortgage boom according to most analyst. The baby boom began in 1946 and continued through 1964. During those 19 years, 76 million people were born. As this segment of America begins to retire a large portion of them will need to rely on their homes equity to make "ends meet." How they access that equity will be the mortgage industries primary focus in the years to come.

The traditional "forward" mortgage has the homeowner borrow the money by way of a traditional mortgage or home equity line and make payments on that amount. The homeowner takes the money, places it in a safe interest bearing account and uses the money to augment their income. The interest that is earned on the money is used to supplements the monthly payment that the homeowner has to make. The problem is that the interest shrinks as the money is used and the mortgage payments stay the same.

Reverse mortgages have actually been around since 1989, but their popularity is skyrocketing as a result of the wave of baby-boomers that are retiring. These mortgage products are safe and beneficial when applied to the right homeowner and circumstances. Lendfast.com recommends that borrowers use FHA-insured Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) when considering these mortgage products. Getting a reverse mortgage from the private sector may include more headaches and costs. However, as with financial product, there are some dangers t women's coats hat you need to be aware of; here are the top three reverse mortgage pitfalls to lookout for.

1) Repayment and Forfeiture – Most, if not all reverse mortgages will not require you to make payments or repay the loan for as long as you live. Once you pass on your heirs will have the opportunity to remortgage the debt or sell the house and repay the loan. If the home has equity above the amount owed to the bank your heirs will receive those proceeds. If the home is "upside down" your heirs have no obligation to repay the debt, but they will forfeit the home unless they pay the amount owed.

However FHA rules state: "When you sell your home or no longer use it for your primary residence, you or your estate will repay the cash you received from the reverse mortgage, plus interest and other fees, to the lender." The danger here is "no longer use it for your primary residence. This means if you have to go to a hospice, nursing home or intend to live in another home and use the house as a second home the bank will call the debt due. This is definitely something you want to consider before taking out a reverse mortgage.

2) Cost and Interest Rates – At the inception of reverse mortgages they were almost exclusively offered with adjustable interest rates. Adjustable rates are still standard practice and you are almost certain to be offered this option to begin with. Don't! There are fixed rate programs available now and at today's rates adjustable rates are only going to go up in the future. It's easy to be lured into an adjustable rate because lower interest rates in a reverse mortgage have higher monthly payments. If the interest rate increases your payment decreases, as does the time frame you have to draw on the mortgage. Just remember, adjustable interest rates are a gamble and Las Vegas wasn't built on winners.

A considerable downside to reverse mortgages is the high up front costs. This cost can be compensated by a lower interest rate over time, but some seniors choose other options to draw on their home equity. Reverse mortgage closing costs should be about the same as most loans except the 2% mortgage insurance premium that FHA charges to insure the loan. FHA insures the lender will be paid regardless of the home's value when and if the lender has to take over the property.

At Lendfast.com we have noticed that many homeowners are paying higher closing costs for reverse mortgages than traditional forward mortgages. We believe this is because most homeowners are unfamiliar with reverse mortgages and tend to not shop around as with traditional mortgages. This is why we recommend the FHA insured type of reverse mortgages because they have closing cost limits that lenders must abide by. Always get two quotes or use the "lenders compete" method to apply for a reverse mortgage. You should also read How Does a Reverse Mortgage Work an article that explains reverse mortgages better.

3) Upkeep, Taxes and Insurance – On traditional mortgages your escrow payments are added to your payment but they are subtracted from your monthly check on a reverse mortgage. Most of the time you will be shown the monthly amount you will receive each month BEFORE the escrows are taken out. This means that you could sign up expecting to get $900 per month and only receive around $700. Make sure you are given the monthly payment LESS your escrow payment. Like most mortgages you will usually be given the option to escrow or not to escrow, however the bank has a vested interest in your home. Meaning if you do not maintain your insurance and taxes as they deem responsible they can call the loan or force an escrow account on you.

When you consider that the bank is basically buying your home you can understand why they would want you to keep their property in good shape. The problem is that this loan is being made to senior citizens. As they age they may become unable to do the necessary maintenance that the bank requires."Good shape" can mean thousands of dollars out of pocket for the homeowner when you consider what a new roof or a fresh coat of paint costs these days. Ask the loan officer what the lenders policy is on maintenance and repair. You may want to take enough money up front to have future repairs taken care of so that your monthly payment stays the same.

Installing Drywall the Easy Way…

Gypsum board, wallboard, plasterboard, sheetrock they all mean the same at end of the day – Drywall. Through out North America this product is very widely used in residential homes and it's gaining more popularity throughout Europe as well.

The boards are made out of compressed gypsum sandwiched between layers of durable paper on both sides. Most commonly they are manufactured in thickness of half-inch, however some installation may require five-eights as a desired thickness. There are many other types of drywalls available on the market to withstand special environments such as bathrooms and other high moisture content circumstances.

An insider trick of the trade is to install the boards horizontally to minimize the amount of taped joints required. You can purchase drywall boards up to twelve feet in length, if possible try to purchase lengths that go from one end of the room to another. If your room exceeds twelve feet in width than of course you will have to add a vertical joint.

Shaping and cutting drywall is one of the easiest part of the job. All you need to do is use a straight edge and a sharp utility knife once you have taken your accurate measurements. Please note that these measurements don't need to be very tightly butted together. If you try to be too précised than quite often you will end up cutting the same board 2-3 times as your measurement ends up being too tight. In my experience, a drywall taper can easily fill gaps up to three-eights of an inch. Start your cut on the face of the board by placing the straight edge along the measured line and just simply pull the knife along the straight edge 2-3 times making sure that you have completely cut through the paper. There is no need to cut in to the gypsum as it will be explained in the next step.

Slightly pick up the drywall or slide a piece of wood underneath the larger board if it's a bigger piece and with a quick motion, snap the board along the cut line. After the drywall is snapped, bend it backwards and cut the paper on the back side of the board as well.

Typically you would want to use 1.25 inch drywall screws to hang the drywalls, some builders may prefer to use 1.5 inch screws on the c fashion jackets eiling for added support. From time to time, you may end up installing drywall over an existing drywalled wall, if that's the wall you nee to increase the length of the screws by the thickness of the existing drywall. No need dwell on this, but make sure that your screws are going into the studs every time.

More experienced drywall installers have special tools to assist them with their installation process. There are special electric drywall screwdrivers that have a special clutch built into them that will prevent you from over tightening the screws and penetrate into the boards deeper than it's recommended. These gadgets also come with an option of holding dozens of preloaded screws to speed up the work. If it's just a one time project that you are taking on, then probably there is no need for this kind of tool, a simple cordless drill may be just as effective.

It's recommended to install the drywall screws every twelve inches on outside edges and perhaps every sixteen inches on the middle. Be sure to keep the boards about half an inch off the floor to prevent any moisture from getting to the board, this is especially important when installed over concrete floors.

When it comes to installing drywall on the ceiling, you might want to line up a few of your friends to give you a hand with those pieces as it could weight close to 70-80 pounds per sheet. I would recommend you nail together two pieces of two by fours to form a T shape. Once you have lifted the board into position, just wedge the T-bar underneath one end, and start fastening the drywall.

The taping and filling is the most critical part of the drywall process. Many people have attempted doing it themselves in the past. I am sure that with proper practice and persistence you can master this technique, but I would always pass this process onto a professional who will guarantee you a smooth finish.

Prior to painting any walls, be sure to apply a coat of primer on the surface for best finishing results. If you were to skip the primer process, you are running the risk of joints showing after painting.

Top Five Christmas Gifts for Children

It's one of the busiest times of the year with the holiday season almost upon us and most of us are racking our brains for gift ideas. Shopping can be quite a chore. There are many choices for gifts and it's not easy to pick out just the right present for family members, friends, and co-workers.

If you are totally stumped for the right gift idea for an adult, you can always fall back on cash or gift certificates. This doesn't work as well for children, who prefer the fun of opening a present and discovering something wonderful inside a beautifully wrapped box.

Here are a few "can't miss" suggestions for the children on your list this holiday season. There are gift ideas and ways to personalize each gift for the individual child. Hopefully this will help take some of the mystery out of shopping.

Toys and Games

Although toys and games seem like an obvious idea for kids' gifts, you might want to stay away from the simpler ones and go with a present that has some educational value. You could also pick a game that can be played with other children in order to increase the child's social skills.

For older children, a nice board game like Scrabble would be a nice fit. Older kids love video games, but you should pick something appropriate and make sure that you know which system they own and what games they already have.

For younger kids, there are educational toys that can help with vocabulary or spelling. For the youngest children, a toy that can help teach numbers or colors is suggested. These are gifts that you can feel good about giving. They are not only fun, but provide long-term benefits for increasing the child's skills.

Stuffed Animals

Kids love plush animals. The right stuffed toy can be a particularly spectacular gift. Kids can collect them as well as play with them, or even take them to bed with them at night. Most of us have fond memories of a favorite stuffed animal from childhood that we slept with each night. Although not obvious at first, the right plush toys can also be educational for younger kids.

A realistic plush version of an animal can help a child begin to learn the features of the animal and help them understand its adaptations for living in its particular environment. It will help kids identify the animal in a zoo or in the wild. They can have fun and increase their awareness of wildlife at the same time! Stuffed animals can also tie in to popular kids' TV shows or movies, like Madagascar or The Lion King.

You can give a child a stuffed lion, their very own "Simba". Perhaps you know that the child wants a pet, but their parents aren't prepared to get them one for whatever reason. You could get them a realistic stuffed dog or cat. Such a gift could help them to better understand the animal and let them practice taking care of one.

Arts, Crafts, and Books

Another perennial favorite, books and crafts are great for kids. Most children enjoy coloring books. There are different levels of challenge available and kids can really get creative. You might be both surprised and impressed with what they can come up with!

They can go from watching cartoon characters to making their own! There are many fine books available for children, both highly imaginative and practical. Books can open up new worlds fo women's jackets online r children and help them learn about everything from dinosaurs to outer space. They can learn new things and increase their reading skills while still having fun.

Clothing

Children seem to grow quickly and outgrow their clothes before you know it. They've probably outgrown the clothes that they wore last year, so a coat, hat or gloves can be a useful gift. Although clothing is not the most popular gift, you can make it more fun by getting creative. Pick something in their favorite color with a cool logo from their favorite movie, TV show, or other favorite character.

Candy and Food

Although it isn't as popular a choice as a plush toy, candy or cookies can also be successful gifts for children. Food makes a good secondary gift to accompany another gift. You could give them a stuffed bear holding a box of candy. Just check with their parents first to find out about any allergies or dietary restrictions they may have.

Hopefully, this has given you some ideas, and if you can combine something fun with something practical and informative, you will soon have a great gift!

If a wedding is going to be overly casual, the invitation will mention that as well. So if you get an invitation with no mention of a dress code, then assume it is one of those in-between-weddings that call for semi-formal dress.

Look for beautiful silk ties in solid prints or patterns that coordinate with your suit.

Even if you are not a suit and tie kinda guy, you have got to admit they transform you from an everyday Joe to a Cool Dude!

Flush It All Away For Good Drainage Maintenance!

Spring is in the air, and no doubt everything needs a good clean. Its all very well polishing the mantelpiece and hovering behind the sofa, but do you dare sort out your drains? This is the kind of job most people dread and ignore. But ignore it at your peril - next thing you know you could be paying a drainage specialist to solve your problems.

Like most daunting tasks, clearing out drains is more straightforward than you think. Don a pair of thick rubber gloves and you won't even have direct contact with anything unpalatable.

Outside drains can get blocked from leaves and other debris so clear out gutters and drainage holes, especially after Autumn. And get covers for drainage holes so that large objects can't fall in and block things up. Long downpipes can be difficult to deal with - you'll need a long rod to push stuff out. Clearing outside drains and pipes will help to minimise the risk of damp problems to your house and will cut out foul smells caused by rotting matter and trapped still water.

You can help cut down on problems with underground drains by setting your household some rules about what goes down plug holes and toilets. Put redundant cooking fat in containers in the bin and compost or bin food matter rather than rinsing it off in the sink. Don't flush anything other than toilet paper and teach children not to fill the toilet with mountains of the stuff. Anything else should be binned - you can get scented bin liners if bad odours linger.

If you get a blockage in your toilet there are a few simple techniques you can try. There are various chemical treatments on the market that you can get easily from supermarkets or hardware stores that successfully unblock pipes and toilets. But often they don't deal with the problem permanently, and they may leave your pipes full of toxins. A homemade solution is one part baking soda mixed with three parts boiling water. If that doesn't work, you'll need to get physical.

Blocked toilets are usually caused by too much paper or by objects, such as children's toys being thrown in. If you can see the culprit, put on rubber gloves and get it out. If not then don't be tempted to keep flushing as this may cause the toilet bowl to overflow. Put down some towels round the toilet, get a bucket and scoop out water from the bowl, but be careful to leave some in there for the next stage. Then get a toilet plunger and plunge repeatedly - the water you've left will create the necessary suction. It may take several attempts to remove a blockage, so keep going.

If the toilet plunger gets you nowhere then your next step should be to get a toilet auger. This is placed into the toilet and then turned clockwise. The tip of the auger is rather like a corkscrew and is designed to screw into and either break up or attach itself to the obstruction. If it attaches you should then be able to pull it out.

On the DIY front that's probably the end of your options and the next step will be to get a plumber or drainage specialist to tackle the job. He may well need to detach the toilet fr women's jackets om the drainage system, deal with the problem and then reattach the toilet.

The process is very similar for blocked sinks and bath and shower drains. If hair is the problem then wire from a coat hanger should do the trick and get it out. If this doesn't work then again, a plunger is a good bet. Again, leave a little water as this gives the plunger suction and cover overflow holes to improve the pressure further.

Beyond that, you may have to give in and call the plumber or drainage specialist, who will have all sorts of tools to help you out. He may well dismantle the piping to get to the blockage and then put things back together. But don't see this as defeat! It's much better to get a blocked drain, pipes or toilet sorted out than to let it fester - things will get worse rather than better if you ignore it.

Maintenance of drains and a few house rules may be tedious and unexciting, but they will save you a whole lot of hassle.

Select Your Beautiful Wedding Shoes

So you've bought the perfect dress, now comes the quest to find those perfect shoes. What style will I choose? What's the best heel height? What colour? What material? When do I need them? What about my bridesmaids? Questions, questions, questions. First thing to remember is you will need your shoes for the first fitting on your bridal dress, this is because the dress maker/Bridal House will need to see the length of your gown with you wearing your shoes, in case of alterations. Second thing to remember, like your bridal gown, your wedding shoes may also take some time to arrive after you have ordered them, don't just assume you can go into any shop and walk away with your size, most shops only stock certain sizes and samples only.

Choosing the style can be very difficult as there are lots of styles available, sandals, mules, full shoe, closed toe, boots, ballet, platforms, Cinderella vinyl or even flip flops. Some styles even have a Fillable heel so you can co-ordinate your theme and outfits by putting beads, confetti or even sweets in them. Heel heights can vary from flat to 4 ? ". Choose a style and heel height you will feel comfortable wearing all day, if you don't normally wear a 4" heel, then think twice about choosing it, as when the dancing music is getting played later on, your feet will be telling you "NO", an instant party spoiler. There are a couple of solutions though if you really do want to wear those elegant 4" heels for walking down the isle. You can purchase a more comfortable pair to slip into later for when the music kicks in and you want to dance the night away, a more expensive option maybe, but your feet will thank you for it later, (also if you are wearing a long gown, no one has to know). There are also a number of products on the market that will ensure the comfort of your feet throughout the day, check out your local chemist shop or ask when you purchase your shoes. If you have a real desire to be tall on you special day, try to wear a platform, they are much kinder on the feet as it spreads your weight over the whole of your foot.

There are many fabrics available to choose for your shoes, Satin, Crepe, Silk Satin and Matt Satin, some shoe companies will even make the shoes in the exact material of your dress, its called a "Bespoken Service". When choosing the colour and material of your shoes, you need to take a look back at what the material and colour of your gown is. If your gown is Satin, then chose a satin shoe, this is a high shine material which will complement the high shine of your dress. If your gown is any other material besides satin, then you can choose a Crepe material, this is a dyeable material that has a low sheen and complements any other material. For a more expensive option you could go for a Pure Silk or Silk Satin, they also have a low sheen and complement all gown materials. Ensure you choose a colour that complements the shade of your dress, white, or various shades of ivory. A good shoe dyer will be able to apply a bridal wash and match the exact shade of your gown. You may even want to pick out a colour from your gown i.e. if you have a small red flower on your gown, you may wish to have your shoes dyed to match that red flower.

All of your Bridesmaids are different and will have different tastes in shoes, and will be different heights. Some shoes styles are available in 2 different heel heights to accommodate the difference in people. When choosing your bridesmaid shoes you should bear in mind two things, they should all be of the same type of shoe, i.e. if the bridesmaids are all showing their toes or all wearing a closed toe etc. This will make a difference when you look back on your wedding photographs, as this will be the only thing showing. And the second thing, if you are having their shoes dyed, ensure all bridesmaid shoes are dyed at the same time and from the same colour batch, as colour variation will happen.

Finally, just one last thing, you may have women's coats spend out a small fortune for those perfect wedding shoes, just to wear for only one day, but, be aware if you have bought a dyeable style, a professional dyer can dye them to another shade to match a favourite outfit, or even black, so you can get more than one days wear out of them.

How To Dress For Winter Steelhead Fishing

When I started fishing for winter Steelhead a few years ago, I had nothing. Until then, I was a ?€?fair-weather?€?fisherman who didn't really know what cold was. Boy did I find out fast.

I will never forget my first time out. I had just hooked up with a longtime friend of mine who I had not seen since grade school. Steve was going to teach me all about Steelhead & Salmon fishing. It was mid December, the 16th of 1999 I think. We met at Steve?€?s house at about 5 am. All I was wearing was my jeans, T-shirt, baseball cap, regular shoes a women's jackets nd a warm weather jacket in the car.

Steve just looked at me. ?€?Are you nuts??€?He said. ?€?You're going to freeze.?€?Well, I replied this is about all I have. ?€?Don?€?t worry about it, I?€?ll make it. Let?€?s go?€?No sooner did we get to the river I was just that, freezing. But hey, I?€?m stoked because I?€?m going to catch me a long over-due Steelhead. I remember looking at him as I was just about numb to the core and noticing he was warm as could be. It didn't take long to ask ?€?Ok, how much is all that and where can I get it?€? I wasn't going to go through that kind of day ever again. By God?€?s grace, I did catch my first ever Steelhead that day but not without paying a heavy price.

By my next trip out I managed to up my gear with a pair of waders, along with a breathable raincoat. The only thing missing was head wear. ?€?I knew I was forgetting something.?€?It was another cold day. It was uncomfortable, but at least not unbearable like my first time out. I had a stocking cap, so it ended up being ok.

I tell you my friends, there is nothing like the comfort of being warm. When the temperature is in the 30?€?s with rain, snow, and sleet. (Yes, I have had all 3!). You will be glad you have the gear. Also, being warm gives you so much more of a good time.

Here is my suggested checklist when going out for a day on the river.

1. Waders. You can find these just about everywhere. Just like anything else, you get what you pay for. I recommend the breathable Simms brand G3?€?s or G4?€?s being the top of the line. They do run a bit high, in the price range from about $350 to $699. You can get the Rivertek Stockingfoots for $299. Rivertek is about as low as I would go for winter. You can also go with the long time stand by in Neoprene 3.5 mm. You can get into a pair of these in the price range of $80 to $200.

2. Rain coat. Another must have. Rain coats really come down to your own comfort. Personally, I need to feel loose, and agile. Therefore, I use a tighter, lighter style in Columbia. The bottom line is dry.

3. Your hat. I like the Henschel. A great, quality oil skin hat that will keep your head dry. A dry head is a warm head. I believe these run in the ballpark of $50

4. Underclothing. There are all kinds of things out there now. I use anything that is designed to keep the moisture out and the heat in. Over that I usually wear something of wool, over that my waders. This all depends on how warm or cold blooded you are. Some people like me need 3-4 layers, while others just 1 or 2. Check your local REI or Sporting goods store for these.

One last tip, get yourself a dry bag. You will not regret having an extra set of clothes for the sake of emergency. You never know when you will slip on a rock, or get plain soaked due to heavy weather. Just put your dry bag in the truck or boat. Dry bags can be purchased through Sporting goods store also. Price will depend on size, costing on average $40.

Storage Lockers Work Much Better Than Metal Lockers in Water Park Design

Plastic storage lockers are far more suitable for water park design than metal lockers. Metal has many drawbacks including vulnerability to rough usage, vandalism, and deterioration from rust. Particularly i women's jackets n coastal areas, metal is not a suitable for a long term investment.

Plastic lockers are far more durable and attractive. They come in a wide range of storage options and sizes. Units can also be customized to match the increasing demand for attraction factor in hotel resorts and indoor destination parks.

Anyone experienced in outdoor water park design knows that space is often a precious commodity in the changing room. Some facilities do not even have separate changing rooms but instead set aside a portion of the restroom as a dressing room.

Storage lockers that come in a variety of sizes make the designer's job much easier because they can be ordered preassembled to match existing interior architectural spaces.

Locker sizes for single tier units are 36, 48, 60, and 72 inches in height. Double tier units are available in 60 inch and 72 inch heights. Units offer coat hooks that allow coats and dresses to be hung neatly. Single tier units also have special shelves for personal items, socks, underwear, and shoes.

Storage lockers in the Z configuration also offer superb wrinkle free clothing storage. This is of particular advantage in indoor water park design. Many indoor parks are a special area within a five star hotel resort.

Guests here may be wearing very nice clothes and decide on the spur of the moment to visit the water park. Having a place to store their best without ruining its appearance is an added amenity that they are sure to appreciate.

Another major consideration in water park design is corrosion resistance. Metal simply does not have this resistance. In both fresh air and salt air environments, it will eventually give way to rust.

Seeing as how both indoor parks and outdoor parks are very humid environments, metal lockers will inevitably suffer wear and eventually require costly replacement. For those parks located near the sea, the replacement will be needed sooner rather than later.

The innate corrosion resistance of plastic storage lockers will eventually pay for the costs of the units. Plastic is nonporous and will never absorb moisture. Not only does this make locker units impervious to rust, but it also buffers them against mold and mildew spores that are common in many hot, humid parts of the country.

Theme parks also attract a lot of children who get increasingly excited the closer they get to the water. Plastic is much more capable of taking the abuse of slamming doors and horseplay than is metal. Metal is hard, to be sure, but it also dents.

Maintenance crews have to repair dents in metal, and this accrues an hourly cost for the park. Plastic storage lockers do not dent, nor do they scratch easily. This also makes them very vandal resistant to those who become deliberately mischievous.

Plastic lockers offer the added benefits of never having to be repainted. The plastic they are made from is colored at the factory. The color runs throughout the entirety of the plastic mold, not just over the surface.

All storage lockers are ADA compliant and super secure. Units can be ordered with built in key locks, padlocks, or built in combination locks to protect valuables. They can also be customized to match the interior architecture of any outdoor or indoor water park design.

Options include slope tops, flat tops, end panels, wall hooks, and logos. Coat rods, mesh doors for ventilation, wall hooks, and drain holes to keep the units super dry are additional options available upon designer request.

2 Steps to a Great Deck Finish - Stains, Sealers and Paints

Currently there is a fair amount of disagreement on the subject of when to apply a finish of some sort to that new wood deck.

Every deck no matter how well it is built cannot escape weathering. Failure to apply a protective coating will result in the wood weathering into its natural grey tones. It is a wise choice to coat the entire deck with a finish soon after its completion. Pressure treated wood, cedar and redwood all need protection.

Thr fashion jackets online ee factors come into play when considering what finish to apply to a deck. Color is the first since it will be a powerful factor in the successful design of a deck. Durability and ease of application are also essential. Thirdly, the type of deck wood plays an important part. Treated wood generally requires staining or painting to achieve the best results while a clear finish allows the natural colors of cedar and redwood to show through.

Clear sealers protect the wood from water damage. Those with additives that resist mildew formation, insects and fungi growth are best. UV blockers help reduce damage caused by the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Sealers with pigments offer the same protection but change the wood color slightly. Sealers can be applied under or over stains and under primer and paint.

Deck stains, unlike sealers, are formulated primarily to alter the appearance of the wood. Semitransparent stains allow more of the wood grain to show through but wear more quickly. Heavier bodied deck stains contain more of the pigment and hide more of the wood grain.

Paints more easily conceal defects, can last for greater periods of time and can look aesthetically pleasing in certain designs. Exterior alkyds are more expensive, more difficult to clean up and are slower to dry. They do wear well over time. Latex paints are a less expensive alternative, clean up easily, dry quickly but do not wear well on deck surfaces.

Some so-called experts will tell you that a deck should dry out for months or even a year before a finish should be applied. This is not a wise course of action. The most important coat of finish a deck will receive is the very first one. A new deck built with pressure treated lumber should be allowed to dry out for two to four weeks depending upon weather conditions. Untreated lumber should be finished as soon as it is dry to the touch. Waiting any longer will lead to the wood beginning to degrade.

Before applying any deck stain or sealer or paint, you should take the two steps necessary to see how the finish will look. First test the final color or finish in an out-of-the-way spot on the deck or on a scrap piece of deck wood. Secondly, allow the finish to completely dry to ensure that the finish is the desired result you want. Stains generally dry lighter while paints end up looking darker.

The rule of thumb in the world of deck stains, sealers and paints is:"You get what you pay for." The better, more expensive finishes contain solvents, repellents, preservatives and pigments. They tend to last longer than the less expensive products. They will cost more per application because the deck will soak up more. However, in the long run they will save time and money because they will need to be applied less often.

So consider taking the time to apply a good quality finish to that newly completed deck and protect your investment.

Simple Tips For A Happy Feline

A healthy animal makes for a happy pet. If you are a cat owner and you want to make your pet happy, you need to make sure that your cat is groomed properly, fed on time and is given enough love and attention.

Here are some tips on how you can have a healthy and happy cat:

1. Take care of your cat's health.

As a pet owner, it is your responsibility to make sure that your cat is healthy and free from diseases that may even be transmitted to humans.

Visit the veterinarian if you notice that your cat has become lethargic or less active than usual.

If you see them 'shedding' excessively or has something unusual on their coat, immediately consult a professional.

Your cat might have a skin disease, or this could be a symptom of a sickness that you do not know about.

2. Groom your cat properly.

Cats are in the habit of grooming themselves. You will often see them using their tongue to clean their coat.

In spite of this, you should still do your part in grooming your cat if you want to keep them really clean.

Brush your cat's fur regularly. There are several short-haired cats that need minimal brushing. For this, you can use a comb with soft bristles.

There are also cat breeds which have long, silky furs and this variety needs a much longer grooming time.

Use a wide-toothed comb initially then brush up with a fine toothed one afterwards. You can also use talcum powder in order to separate the hair strands.

Make sure that you brush with gentle strokes so that their skin will not be hurt or scratched.

Cats are also not that fond of taking a bath. But there are times when your cat would need bathing.

This is when they have accumulated a lot of dirt on the skin and coat. Bathing will help eliminate ticks and lice.

Also, there might be substances that could cling on the fur which can be poisonous and it is important for them to bathe.

When bathing your pet, use a shampoo that is specially made for cats. Prepare the following before bathing:

-a small tub women's jackets online or sink
-slip-proof mat
-water spray attachment
-clean, dry towels
-shampoo
-comb

Adjust the water temperature, then place your cat in the small tub or sink before filling it up with water. It is better to attach a sprayer in the faucet rather than pouring water directly onto its body. Apply a liberal amount of shampoo on the cat's body, and try to avoid the face, especially the eyes and ears.

After rinsing, towel them dry and comb the coat. Bathing time should build trust and create some quality time between you and your pet cat.

This should prevent your cat from making much of a fuss the next time it needs a bath.

Another part of grooming is keeping the eyes, teeth and ears clean. Also remember to keep the paws clean and the nails trimmed.

Go to a pet store and you are sure to find products specially made to clean these parts. You can also look for a nail trimmer specifically designed to use on your pet cat.

Ask a professional groomer or a veterinarian so that you can learn how to properly clean your cat's eyes, ears, teeth and nails.

3. Feed them on time.

Another aspect of keeping your cat happy and healthy is by feeding them well and on time.

Your feline friends can learn how to "stick" to a schedule with your guidance and training.

Make time in your busy day to feed them. You can learn which variety of cat food they prefer by serving different brands and variants.

Along with cat food, you should give them plenty of clean water to drink.

If you have a lot of pet cats, give them individual feeding plates.

If there is just one dish, other cats might not be fed well because dominant felines will take the most part of the food that you serve.

3. Shower them with love and attention.

By giving your cats your undivided attention while grooming and feeding them, you are already showering them with love and attention.

In addition to this, make their play time a lot more fun by appreciating the things that they do.

By following these tips, you are sure to have a healthy cat and be a contented owner.
